Our Review:

Razneesh Razy Ghai’s 120 Bahadur is a tale of bravery and sacrifice by the Indian Armed Forces in the Battle of Rezang La. Shot in Ladakh and Rajasthan, the film boasts impressive camerawork and production design, with frames that genuinely grab your attention. Tetsuo Nagata has done a commendable job as the cinematographer. However, the film falters when it takes a template-driven route to convey emotions. It attempts to build emotional depth which doesn’t succeed as intended. Between the action and thrills, the film pauses for conversations between soldiers to create a sense of attachment to the characters, but these moments don’t land effectively. The film does have its moments while evoking courage for the battle.

Farhan Akhtar, as Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, is sincere in his performance and particularly shines in the scenes where he inspires courage in his team. Raashii Khanna is decent, though the pairing feels a bit odd. Eijaz Khan delivers a strong performance, and the rest of the cast, including Sparsh Walia, does a good job as well. The music of the film is decent but not memorable, though the background score works well. The dialogues are well written. The film’s action and hand-to-hand combat sequences stand out, and the sound design supports the visuals very well. Overall, while the routine treatment keeps the film from reaching its full potential, 120 Bahadur is still a good film, a story that deserves to be known for its sheer courage and sacrifice.
