With the success of Gadar 2, OMG 2, and Dream Girl 2 at the box office, Bollywood is now back in the action. So here is an list of anticipated upcoming Bollywood sequel films set to hit the silver screen.
- Yaariyan 2 – 20th October, 2023
2014’s sleeper hit “Yaariyan” launched Rakul Preet Singh & Himansh Kohli as Actors & Divya Khosla Kumar as a Director. In “Yaariyan 2”, DKK stars as the lead alongside Meezaan Jaffri & Yash Daasgupta. Produced by T-Series, the sequel is directed by Vinay Sapru & Radhika Rao of “Sanam Teri Kasam” and “Lucky: No Time For Love” fame.
- Tiger 3 – 10th November, 2023
Salman Khan returns as the titular character for the 3rd Installment of the “Tiger” Series & 5th in the wider YRF Spy Universe. Co-starring Katrina Kaif & Emraan Hashmi, the film is directed by Maneesh Sharma (“Fan” & “Band Baaja Baaraat”). It is touted to be YRF’s Most Expensive Film ever but we feel it’d be worth it considering Salman Khan & Spy Universe both have a 100% Success Ratio for YRF!
- Fukrey 3 – 1st December, 2023
Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment backed “Fukrey” returns for its 3rd Film helmed by Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. The cast of Pulkit Sharma, Richa Chadha, Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi & Manjot Singh return but will miss the presence of Ali Fazal. Both the predecessors were critically & commercially acclaimed and expectations are high from the 3rd Film.
- Love, Sex Aur Dhokha 2 – 16th February, 2024
Director Dibakar Banerjee returns for the sequel to his 2010 Cult Classic Found Footage Thriller backed by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures. The film had a poster launch in early July 2023 and promised to be edgier & full of thrills that it’s predecessor.
- Singham Again – 15th August, 2024
Rohit Shetty returns to the Director’s chair for the 3rd Installment of the “Singham” Series & 5th in his “Cop Universe”. Ajay Devgn will return as the titular character & will be supported by ‘Lady Singham’ Deepika Padukone who, as per reports, will play Devgn’s sister alongside Kareena Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. The film is aiming for the Big Independence Day Weekend!.
- Stree 2 – 31st August, 2024
“Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank” (Terror of the Headless Man) will be the 4th Film in Producer Dinesh Vijan’s Horror Comedy Universe. Amar Kaushik returns as Director sans screenwriters Raj & DK. Almost the entire cast will return – Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurrana, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi & Shraddha Kapoor. Expectations are huge with the film & the genre!
- Housefull 5 – 1st November, 2024
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala will reunite with Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh for the 5th Installment of the comedy series “Housefull”. Announcement was made in late June 2023 along with a poster with the release date pegged for Diwali 2024. Director Tarun Mansukhani (“Dostana” & “Drive”) will helm the project. Despite the mixed reviews, the franchise has been a money maker at the Box Office with a 100% Success Rate.
- Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 – 1st November, 2024
After the huge success of “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2”, Producer T-Series immediately green flagged the 3rd Film in the franchise with both Kartik Aaryan and Director Anees Bazmee returning. Filming begins in February 2024 with a tight schedule & special attention to the brand image. Cast details & other details are still awaited.
- Welcome 3 – 25th December, 2024
Firoz Nadiadwala backed “Welcome 3: Welcome to the Jungle” will be the 3rd installment in the “Welcome” series after the mixed critical & commercial reaction to “Welcome Back”. Nonetheless, Akshay Kumar returns to the series alongside Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal among others. Slated for a Christmas release next year.
- War 2 – TBD
The 6th Installment in the “Spy Universe” & the sequel to the 2019 Blockbuster, “War 2” will pit 2 of the Biggest Stars of Indian Cinema – Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR – against each other. Also making his Directorial Debut for YRF is Ayan Mukerji who leaves Dharma Productions for the upcoming action entertainer. Expectations are Sky High!
- Hera Pheri 3 – TBD
Producer Firoz Nadiadwala brings back the iconic trio – Raju, Shyam & Baburao – for a 3rd Venture. Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty & Paresh Rawal return for a 3rd time with a promo video which has been shot. Audiences have expressed their disapproval with Director Farhad Samji leading the project. Only time will tell how the project turns out to be!
- Awara Paagal Deewana 2 – TBD
Continuing on his ambition to cash in on the sequel frenzy & nostalgia factor, Producer Firoz Nadiadwala is planning a sequel to the cult classic “Awara Paagal Deewana” too! Akshay Kumar returns with Paresh Rawal & Suniel Shetty with new members Arshad Warsi & Sanjay Dutt. Shooting begins soon!
- Jolly LLB 3 – TBD
Director Subhash Kapoor’s courtroom drama returns for a 3rd Part with the leads of previous two movies, reportedly, facing off against each other – Akshay Kumar & Arshad Warsi. Previous 2 Movies have been critically & commercially praised and expectations are high with the next film.
- Don 3 – TBD
Farhan Akhtar’s plan to take the classic character into a new era drew sharp reactions from fans after the release of the announcement video of replacing Shahrukh Khan. Ranveer Singh will be the new Don with major details still under wraps. We hope Akhtar has some huge plans to take this bold decision.
- Krrish 4 – TBD
Ever since the commercial success of “Krrish 3”, news about its sequel has dominated everything around Director & Producer Rakesh Roshan. The film has been in developmental hell for a long time now with intermittent updates. We hope the Sci-Fi Entertainer locks in its script & begins shooting to reward its fans for their patience.
- Aashiqui 3 – TBD
T-Series & Kartik Aaryan will unite yet again for the 3rd Film in their Musical Hit Series “Aashiqui”. Director Anurag Basu will lead the project with music by Pritam. This one is riding high on the cult classic status of its predecessors.
- Brahmastra Part 2: Dev – TBD
After the completion of “War 2”, Director Ayan Mukerji will shoot Part 2&3 of “Brahmastra” back-to-back. Major cast members – Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan among others – will return with new characters slated to be added. Speculations are rife with who would play Dev and we are excited to watch how this “Astraverse” will expand.
- Khichdi 2 – Diwali 2023
The Saga of the Cult Classic Show & the hilarious Movie will continue in “Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan”. All our beloved characters – Supriya Pathak, Anang Desai, Rajeev Mehta, Vandana Pathak – return this Diwali. A Teaser Trailer has been dropped which has intrigued audiences.
- Bhediya 2 – 2025
The Next Installment in Dinesh Vijan Horror-Comedy Universe will be the sequel to commercially successful “Bhediya” starring Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Abhishek Banerjee among others. The film will serve as the convergence point for the film & is expected to expand thereafter. Interesting to see how the story progresses.
- Haseen Dilruba 2 – 2024
Netflix’s “Haseen Dilruba” took audiences by surprise with its surprise ending. After an interesting Social Media exchange, the makers officially announced the sequel “Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba”. Producer Aanand L Rai, Writer Kanika Dhillon, Taapsee Pannu return with new Director Jayprad Desai (“Kaun Pravin Tambe?”)
21. De De Pyaar De 2
Ajay Devgn and Luv Ranjan reunite for the sequel of “De De Pyaar De”. The 2019 rom com was successful at the Box Office raking in a little more than 100Cr. Luv Ranjan will continue as the producer whereas the sequel shall be directed by debutant Anshul Sharma. Filming begins early next year.
