The Golden February

Mollywood witnessed an extraordinary month in February 2024, with the release of four highly anticipated films within a span of just 14 days. Despite the clash at the box office, each of these movies found its audience, carving out success stories of their own. Among them, Tovino Thomas’ “Anweshippin Kandethum” though underperformed but managed to emerged as a success. Whereas, Naslen & Mamitha’s “Premalu” garnered significant attention and turned out as a massive blockbuster, surpassing the 75 crore mark worldwide and eyeing entry into the coveted 100 crore club with its Telugu release slated for March 8th. Mammootty’s experimental venture, “Bramayugam,” also exceeded industry expectations, crossing the 50 crore milestone globally and earning the distinction of being one of the highest-grossing black and white Indian films ever.

However, stealing the spotlight amidst this flurry of releases was Soubin Shahir and team’s “Manjummel Boys.” From the moment of its release, the film shattered records and redefined box office success. Despite facing stiff competition from the other three releases, “Manjummel Boys” stormed past the 50 crore mark worldwide within just seven days of its release. Today, its global earnings stand at a staggering 85 crores and counting, with predictions placing it in the prestigious 100 crore club in upcoming days.

What sets “Manjummel Boys” apart is not just its domestic success but its unprecedented performance in regions outside of Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, where Malayalam films have traditionally struggled to make an impact, “Manjummel Boys” is rewriting history. Surpassing the lifetime gross of any Malayalam film in the region (Previous Highest Grosser “2018” – 2.26 Cr Lifetime Business), it has already raked in over 10 crores+. With the Telugu version set to release on March 15th, the film’s conquest of new territories seems inevitable. Notably, “Manjummel Boys” is poised to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film in North America, potentially crossing the coveted $1 million mark, a feat never achieved by a Malayalam film before. The film will surpass the earnings of previous hits like “Lucifer” by today.

As of March 3rd, the film is set to cross the 10 crore mark in domestic gross collections in a single day, marking yet another milestone in its remarkable journey. With records tumbling one after another, the question is whether “Manjummel Boys” will surpass the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film, “2018,” which amassed over 175.5 crores worldwide. Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the sky seems to be the only limit for this box office juggernaut.
